How to Install a Dishwasher
Swap or add a dishwasher with code-compliant water, drain and electrical connections.
- • Adjustable wrench
- • Screwdriver
- • Level
- • Voltage tester
- • Dishwasher
- • Braided supply line
- • Drain hose + high loop clamp
- • 90° brass elbow
- • Air gap (CA + some other states)
Step-by-step
- 1
Shut off water and power
Close the hot supply valve under the sink and flip the dishwasher breaker off. Verify with a tester.
- 2
Attach the 90° elbow and supply line
Wrap threads with 2 wraps of Teflon tape. Attach a 90° brass elbow to the water inlet, then the braided supply line.
- 3
Position the drain hose
Route drain hose to the sink drain or disposal. Make a HIGH LOOP secured to the underside of the counter — this prevents siphon backflow.
- 4
Wire electrical
Most 2026 dishwashers hardwire under the toe-kick. Match black to black, white to white, ground to ground. Cap and secure.
- 5
Slide in, level, secure
Push into the cabinet opening. Level side-to-side and front-to-back using leg adjusters. Secure to the countertop or side cabinets with the included brackets.
- 6
Turn on and test
Open water, restore power, run a rinse cycle. Check under-sink connections and toe-kick for leaks at 5, 15 and 30 minutes.
