How it works

  1. 1Add up the total wall length (perimeter) and ceiling height.
  2. 2Subtract standard 20 sq ft per door and 15 sq ft per window.
  3. 3Multiply by number of coats and divide by 350 sq ft coverage per gallon.

Formula

Gallons = (Wall Area − Openings) × Coats ÷ 350 sq ft per gallon

Worked example

A 12×14 room, 8 ft tall = 52 × 8 = 416 sq ft. Minus 1 door + 2 windows = 366 sq ft. Two coats ÷ 350 ≈ 2.1 gal.
