BuildMate publishes practical, accurate calculators and guides that help homeowners, DIYers and contractors plan projects with confidence. Everything we publish is written to be useful first and search-friendly second.
Sourcing
Cost data is grounded in publicly available industry benchmarks (including RSMeans, HomeAdvisor, Angi and manufacturer specification sheets), then normalized to 2026 USA pricing with state-level cost-of-living multipliers. Building formulas follow standards published by the ICC, ACI, APA and NRCA where applicable.
Review process
Every calculator formula and guide step is reviewed by the BuildMate Editorial Team before publishing. Cost figures are re-checked at least once per year, or sooner if a material category sees a significant price swing.
Authorship
Articles are written by the BuildMate Editorial Team, a group of writers and reviewers with hands-on remodeling, estimating and trade experience. Bylines and “Last updated” dates are shown on every article and guide.
Corrections
We correct errors quickly and transparently — see our Corrections Policy for how to report an issue and how we handle fixes.
Independence
Our editorial content is not paid for by any brand, contractor, or supplier. When we link to products or services, we disclose it — see our Affiliate Disclosure.
AI usage
Some drafts, summaries or code snippets may be produced with AI assistance, but every published word is reviewed and edited by a human before it goes live. AI is never the sole source for a cost figure, formula or safety claim.
