BuildMate Editorial Updated March 2026 7 min read
Federal (Inflation Reduction Act) — still in force 2026
- 25C: 30% of cost, up to $1,200/yr (windows, doors, insulation, audits)
- 25C heat pumps: 30% up to $2,000/yr (separate cap)
- 25D: 30% for solar, batteries, geothermal (no cap, through 2032)
- HEEHRA rebates: up to $14,000 income-scaled for electrification
Common state programs (2026)
- MassSave — up to $10K for heat pumps + insulation (MA)
- NY-Sun — solar rebate on top of federal (NY)
- TECH Clean California — heat pump rebate stackable with 25C
- Illinois Home Weatherization Assistance — income-qualified
- Colorado Heat Pump tax credit — $1,500 state-level
Stacking rules
Federal + state + utility rebates generally stack. Always subtract rebates from cost basis before calculating the federal credit. Save all invoices and Manufacturer Certification Statements for 25C claims.
